I think she's quite convinced she can handle anything on Tatooine. And he's not so sanguine. If it's reasonably safe, he lets her go alone (and worries while she's gone -- too many close calls in their life.)

But if she's say, determined to explore a section of the desert that he knows is crawling with sandpeople, he'll try to persuade her to take Jaesa. If that fails he insists on coming. Which means she takes Jaesa more often than not, because Jaesa doesn't mind the desert.

And that's about 50% not wanting the whining (not really whining but.. hmm, loud quiet self sacrifice?) and 50% she doesn't want to inflict it on him. She camps out on these trips.

Kinda like he doesn't inflict mountain climbing on her, not after they tried it once.

I am very sure that Malavai can scold Adiira pretty severely without ever opening his mouth.

I'm also sure he asks her where she's going and looks up the maps and intel in advance.
