This week I finished the hawaiian jewelbox quilt that I've been working on off and on, started here.  It took a while to get the last border on, as I had to wait for other priorities:

Here's the finished product spread out on the bed:

I plan to machine quilt this with a simple wave pattern, maybe with hawaiian flowers 'floating' on the waves.

That's exquisite!

Is it because I am not an experience quilter
that it reminds me of the Irish Chain pattern?

I don't think that it's because you're an inexperienced quilter. That strong diagonal pattern of colored squares, is the thing that really stands out in both this pattern and the Irish Chain. It's sometimes called a secondary pattern because it takes a full set of blocks to make it appear. This quilt, like an Irish Chain, has a sort of 'eh' individual block, and the coolness isn't evident until there are a bunch of blocks set together.

Brava!

The design really shows off your Hawaiian fabric well. It's beautiful. I like the simple border, too.

Thanks! It's the perfect finish for me too, a bare handful of scraps left-over, from both background and featured fabrics (accidental -- I'd bought the background fabric intending it for a backing and never used it.)

Sounds like win-win-win.
